SEI webinar: Local governments advancing sustainable consumption

Tune in SEI webinar on Wednesday November 25 between 13:00-14:30 CET to learn about the challenges and opportunities local governments face in advancing sustainable consumption in their communities. This webinar is co-organized by Stockholm Environment Institute and the 10YFP Sustainable Lifestyles and Education Programme.

Everybody needs to enable sustainable consumption, both internationally and nationally via sustainable consumption strategies. The role of local governments however remains largely unexamined. This webinar will showcase the current barriers and opportunities local governments face in advancing sustainable consumption in their communities.

Stockholm Environment Institute

Panel of speakers will showcase how local governments can advance both municipal sustainable consumption through public procurement and the sustainable consumption of citizens and businesses. Changing the way we consume will require individuals to adjust their lifestyles, businesses to choose sustainable suppliers and products, and governments, both national and local, to provide the infrastructure, services and products that allow citizens to consume less or consume more sustainably.

Local authorities are crucial to invest EU funds for Recovery

Global challenges such as excessive resource extraction, increasing pollution and loss of biodiversity are directly linked to increasing consumption of goods and services. Citizens, businesses and governments in developed countries currently consume at an unsustainable rate. Finding ways to support, advance and enable sustainable consumption is an essential step to solving these global challenges.

Listen in to learn what steps are needed next and ask the panel any questions you may have.
