Event: Green mining and and the sustainability of the battery value chain

The green mining conference, a high-level international event in the field of mineral resources with attendance both online and in person, will involve the participation of international and Portuguese bodies and organisations – enterprises, universities, industry associations and other stakeholders, in particular in the mineral resources sector.

The key topics of the event will be:

  • the principles of green mining and the sustainability of the battery value chain
  • the contribution of the mining industry responsible for decarbonisation
  • examples of resilience and innovation in the international and Portuguese mining industries.

This event is taking place under the patronage of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The key topics for the event will be: the principles of “green mining” and the sustainability of the battery value chain. In addition the contribution of the mining industry responsible for decarbonisation. Also examples of resilience and innovation in the international and Portuguese mining industries.

Green mining in Europe

The overall objective is to join efforts with other stakeholders to make Europe an even more competitive sustainable society. The mining industry is an important supplier of efficient and sustainable solutions to meet the needs of modern society for metals and minerals. Safe, Lean and Green technology and an innovative organization shall attract talented young men and women. They will meet together the major challenges and opportunities of future mineral supply.

Within this context the specific objectives are to 1) to review existing research and projects attempting to address mining and sustainable development the current state-of-the-art and to 2) prepare a road map for a future multi-disciplinary yet integrated research program.

European Battery Alliance (EBA)

The European Battery Alliance (EBA) was launched in 2017 by the European Commission, EU countries, industry, and the scientific community. Batteries are a strategic part of Europe’s clean and digital transition and a key enabling technology, essential to the automotive sector’s competitiveness. Therefore, the Commission aims to make Europe a global leader in sustainable battery production and use.
