The Web Summit is the largest tech conference in the world. More than 70 000 attendees are expected to gather in Lisbon, with 1200 speakers and participants from 160 countries for 4 days of networking and business.
The European Commission has a corporate stand at the Web Summit and the Directorate-General for Communication Networks, Content and Technology (Connect) organizes 3 workshops on topical issues for digital policies including digital skills, innovation and Next-Generation Internet (NGI).

Further to the stand, DG CONNECT organizes 3 workshops on topical issues for digital policies which will consist of the following:
The Digital skills, your future workshop took place on Tuesday 5 November at 10:00 AM. Europe is facing a digital skills gap; approximately 35% of workers across Europe do not have even basic digital skills which has a significant impact on EU businesses. During the workshop, attendees will hear from companies who have tackled this challenge and who are committed to invest in people and Europe’s future through training and re-training.
The Digital Innovation challenge for Europe’s start-ups and SMEs workshop will take place on Thursday 7 November at 10:00 AM. Attendees are invited to imagine new services based on smart solutions provided by the European Commission and to gain visibility at European level and work on your ideas together with European Commission experts. The winners can win up to € 50.000. More information will be provided soon.
The Next Generation Internet – technology deep dive workshop will take place on Thursday 7 November at 11.00 AM. The Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative aims to shape the internet of the future in line with European values. It funds European innovative research projects that make it possible to imagine and develop a new internet that is safer, more open, more respectful of people and more useful to all citizens. In this session, developers funded by the Commission will present the most powerful and promising technologies developed during the first year of the programme in the field of Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PET), Search and Discovery, Decentralized Data Governance and Blockchain.
